Tom T. Town and Gerry MacKay Passing

Tom T. Town and Gerry MacKay, two members of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and legendary athletes from Brandon, MB, have passed away.

Tom T. Town

Tom was well known for his determination and had a very successful baseball career in Manitoba. His involvement in baseball began back in the 1950s. He was an All Star first baseman with the Brandon Cloverleafs and was a seven time Central Manitoba Baseball Association Champion (1954-1960). He was also an All Star first baseman in the M.S.B.L. (1961-1971), a league batting champion in 1966 and 1969, a Canadian Champion in 1972, a Manitoba champion in 1966, 1967, 1969, and 1971. He was president of the first Canadian Youth Championships in Brandon, MB in 1989, and was President of World Youth Championships in Brandon in 1991 and 1994. He was then was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997 with the Brandon Cloverleafs, and then again in 1998 as an individual. 

Tom passed away on January 13, 2022 at the age of 91.

Gerry MacKay

Gerry was an extremely talented athlete and local businessman from Brandon, Manitoba. He was involved in baseball for well over 30 years, playing/coaching baseball in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. He became the head coach of Canada’s first national team at the Pan Am Games, headed Team Canada at the World Championships in Cuba in 1971, the Pan Am Games at Cali Columbia in 71, and the World Championships in Nicaragua in 1972. He was also a director of C.F.A.B. (1967 - 1974), he was the host chairman of the Canadian Senior Tournament in Brandon in 1970, and was the M.B.A. president in 1972 -1973. Gerry was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. 

Later in life, he returned home to assist his brother in running Curly MacKay and Sons, an iconic local sporting goods store in Brandon, MB that was originally opened by their father. Gerry passed away at the age of 91.
