2018 21U Women’s Invitational Championship RECAP

The 2018 21U Women's Invitational Championships were this past weekend in Stonewall, Manitoba. Team Manitoba played well, battled hard, and placed forth overall out of the five teams that entered the tournament.

Thursday, August 9th: 

Team Manitoba started the weekend off at 9AM in a game against Team Ontario.

Later that evening the Opening Ceremonies ensued. Team Manitoba held our province's flag high as they walked around Fine's Field with Team Saskatchewan, Team Ontario, Team Nova Scotia, and Team Quebec.

The teams lined up around the infield during the ceremony.

Baseball Manitoba's President, Tony Siemens. 

Once the Opening Ceremonies concluded, Team Manitoba faced off against Team Saskatchewan at 7PM.

In an exciting first inning Zoe Hicks hit a grand slam, driving in herself and three teammates.

Friday, August 10th: 

Team Manitoba played one game on Friday against Team Quebec at 3PM, with a final score of 6-3.

Saturday, August 11th: 

Saturday brought the end of the round-robin, and the start of the semi-finals. Team Manitoba finished the round-robin in 3rd place after playing Nova Scotia at 12PM, and played Team Ontario in the semi-finals at 8PM. After a very close game they were ultimately defeated and were set to play for the Bronze medal against Team Nova Scotia at 10AM on Sunday.

Sunday, August 12th: 

Team Nova Scotia defeated Team Manitoba and won the Bronze medal. Katie Heppner (#2, Pitcher) earned Player of the Game in Team Manitoba's final game of the tournament.

Team Quebec defeated team Ontario for the Gold medal.

Round Robin Standings:

1 - Ontario (3-1)

2 - Nova Scotia (2-1)

3 - Manitoba (2-1)

4 - Quebec (1-2)

5 - Saskatchewan (0-3)

Playoff Standings:

1- Nova Soctia

2- Ontario

3- Manitoba 

4- Quebec 

Final Standings:

Gold: Quebec

Silver: Ontario

Bronze: Nova Scotia

Once all of the games were finished, the medals and awards were handed out.

Top Defensive Player: Katie Hagen, Nova Scotia

Zoe Hicks (#32, Third Base) and Caitlin Wilkinson (#8, Outfield) were chosen for the All Star Team as well.
