Celebrating the First-Ever National Girls in Baseball Week

This week marks a historic first for our sport across the country, the first ever National Girls in Baseball Week, and here at Baseball Manitoba, we’re proud to be part of this movement to recognize, support, and elevate women and girls in baseball.

Baseball Manitoba is committed to building inclusive pathways and ensuring every women and girl who wants to get involved in baseball, whether as an athlete, a coach, an umpire, or a volunteer, has the opportunity to do so. From grassroots to high-performance, our programming is designed to empower female athletes at every stage of their baseball journey.

We offer a growing number of dedicated programs for women and girls, including:

Girls Baseball Program
- A Development Program for girls ages 7-12 who want to learn to play baseball - no experience necessary! The goal is to develop and improve a baseball skill-set while giving athletes an opportunity to participate in a fun, all-girls setting.

12U Girls League (NEW for 2025)
- This division is for female athletes ages 10-12, and follows a similar format and rules used for 11U. Female athletes are allowed to participate on both all-girls and mixed teams, and can register for any division within their age group. We are hoping this division will not only help recruit (and retain) female athletes, but female coaches and officials as well.

Female High-Performance Programs
- Baseball Manitoba's Female High Performance Programs features three Provincial Teams comprised of the top athletes and coaches from across the Province. Each summer, coaching staffs hold open ID camps, workouts, and competitions to prepare for Western and National Championships. The 2025 teams include:
  - 19U Women's Team (NEW in 2025)
    - The 19U Women's Team will train and compete throughout the summer, building toward the 19U Women's National Championships, happening in Calgary, AB, this August.
  - 16U Girls Provincial Team
    - This team competes in the Winnipeg Minor 15U AA league throughout the season and will compete at the 2025 Canada Summer Games this August in St John's, Newfoundland.
  - 14U Girls Development Team
    - The 14U Girls Development Team is focused on skill development and long-term athlete growth. It serves as a feeder program for the 16U team, with structured training and competitive opportunities throughout the summer.

National Girls in Baseball Week is not just about celebration, it’s about continuing to break barriers, build community, and create opportunities for women and girls to thrive in baseball. Manitoba is proud to be part of that progress, and we’re just getting started.
